Shop Home Delivery started with a question somebody asked in a shop queue: does this one deliver? It turned out to be surprisingly hard to answer, and harder still to find out what to do when the answer was no.

What we are not

We are not connected with Aldi, Lidl, B&M, Poundland, Farmfoods, Primark, Boots, The Range, Booths, Heron Foods, Poundstretcher, or any other shop written about on this site. Nobody here works for them, nobody pays us to say anything, and no shop has approved a word of it. Every brand name and every logo belongs to the company that owns it, and is used here only to say which shop a page is about.

Where the facts come from

Shop locations come from OpenStreetMap and the people who map it. Population figures come from the 2021 census for England and Wales, from National Records of Scotland, and from GeoNames and Wikidata. Photographs come from Geograph through Wikimedia Commons, and every one names the person who took it. Anything a shop has said publicly is quoted as the shop said it.

When a store page says how many people live within a mile, or a few miles, of a shop, that counts the people in each of the census’s smallest neighbourhoods, mostly a few hundred homes apiece, whose middle (where its people live, not just the middle of the map) falls inside that distance. It is not the population of every town nearby added up. For England and Wales those neighbourhoods come from the Office for National Statistics, Census 2021, and for Scotland from National Records of Scotland and the Scottish Government. For Northern Ireland they come from NISRA’s Census 2021 (source: NISRA, www.nisra.gov.uk). All of these are Crown copyright and used under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Where a store sits near the border with Ireland, the count also takes in the Republic’s side, from Census 2022 figures published by the Central Statistics Office and neighbourhood boundaries from the CSO and Tailte Éireann, under CC BY 4.0.

Shops move, open, close and change their minds. If something here is out of date, or was never right in the first place, please let us know. Corrections get made the same week.
